The B2B on LUTS & Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Meeting was organized by the Societé Internationale d’Urologie (SIU) and was held from September 6 to 8, 2019 in Lefkada, Greece. SIU B2B (Bench to Bedside) meetings focus on specific topics, and current knowledge is discussed through lectures, debates, roundtables, surgical videos, and workshops.
Day 1: At the welcome reception, Professor de la Rosette, Secretary General of the SIU, and Dr. Ioannis Gkialas, President of the Hellenic Urological Association, welcomed approximately 200 participants, and briefly described the meeting programme. The session covered the most recent findings on benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) and overactive bladder (OAB) research, and included a discussion on collaboration between urologists and general practitioners (GP). Professor Pilar Laguna gave the SIU lecture that was focused on SIU Scholarships and Training Programs. The “Glimpse in the Future” session closed with two key lectures on e-Health and Education. Day 2: The second day of the meeting began with lectures on etiology and the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), adverse sexual events of LUTS treatment, nocturia, and OAB considerations. The sessions saw a great degree of interaction between lecturers and the audience, which allowed for a fruitful exchange of different views, and helped attendees address their questions and knowledge gaps. A workshop on catheterization for GPs and medical students followed, and covered a wide spectrum of cases, from straight-forward situations to very difficult cases of urethral catheterization. The workshop helped attendees clarify everyday clinical practice dilemmas. The next session covered the invasive treatment of BPO, and included video presentations on several invasive treatment options, and key lectures on ejaculation preservation and postoperative LUTS management. The second day ended in the late evening, and all sessions were packed with enthusiastic colleagues. |

Day 3: The Sunday morning lectures covered advances and challenges in ED, in particular metabolic syndrome and new concepts in ED assessment, as well as novel pharmaceutical, shockwave and protheses treatment options. The next session was dedicated to controversies in Peyronie’s disease (PD) etiology and related aspects of treatment. The last day of the meeting featured a workshop for injectables as treatment for ED and PD, including model practices.
Overall, the meeting was a great opportunity for all attendees to discuss challenging topics and improve their approaches for the benefit of patients. It was also an excellent opportunity to see old friends and make new ones. These kinds of meetings give everyone a chance—especially younger attendees—to acquire knowledge and insight on issues that might not be readily available on the internet or in textbooks.
