Dear friends and colleagues, |
As healthcare professionals, we are all under immense strain as we unite to battle the spread of a global pandemic, the likes of which we have not seen in generations. |
On behalf of the SIU Board of Directors and staff, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Our biggest concern is your well-being and that of our 10,000 members across 130 countries around the world, where governments and healthcare workers are struggling to contain a disease that threatens so many people in so many ways. |
In the midst of this global crisis, we know that the SIU Congress planned for this October in Montreal may not be your top priority; however, we want to assure you that we remain fully committed to delivering the kind of world-class event that our members have come to expect. |
We are working through a range of options – both in-person and through online technologies (such as SIU's SIUatU platform that we have offered since 2014)– to ensure that we are in a position to deliver a Congress programme that is relevant, accessible, cost-effective and focused on the unique needs of members like you. Regardless, we continue to prepare and plan a robust scientific programme that will educate and enrich our members. |
With so much anxiety and uncertainty in our lives, we understand the importance of providing you with timely, reliable information about plans for the Congress. An update on the status of this year’s event will be shared with you no later than June 15th to assist you in your own preparations for the event. |
In the meantime, we would appreciate hearing from you: How can we help you through this crisis? What kind of information or support would be most helpful? How can we structure and deliver this year’s Congress to make it most meaningful to you and your colleagues? Please share your thoughts by emailing us at [email protected]. |
On behalf of all of us at the SIU, we send our best wishes for continued good health and the strength to weather this unprecedented storm. |

The SIU is watching the quickly-evolving situation with COVID-19 and wishes to send its support and best wishes to all those affected by this pandemic. At present time, there are no plans to alter the planning for SIU 2020 in Montreal, scheduled for October 7-11. We are hopeful that this situation will not present the same threat and challenges in the Fall as it currently does. We will continue to monitor all updates and recommendations from the World Health Organization and other global health agencies. SIU’s primary concern remains the health and safety of attendees and the public.
